Information for NEw Students & Parents

Hello!

Have questions about joining the team? Please check out our FAQ and informational presentation below.
Want to see what we did in 2023? Check out our recap videos:
  1. This video goes into detail from the year and was on Turner's Rail Cat Network
  2. This video primarily highlights some different aspects of the season
Pearadox Robotics is a year-round program. We start recruiting new team members primarily at the beginning of summer. Please use our contact page if you have any questions. Below you will find our presentation given to new members, and the list of items to do to join the team
When you want to start attending meetings or continue participating please complete the following:
  • Students take the Student Registration Survey
  • Parents take the Guardian Registration Survey
  • View the informational slides linked above or watch a recording of the 2021 informational session here
  • Read through the Team Handbook and bring in a signed Code of Conduct
  • Once a week, survey responses are checked and people are added to the team Slack.
    • Slack is our primary form of communication.
    • Parents will be added limited members to only see announcements, general, and parent channels
    • Students will be added as regular members to see all channels except parent or mentor channels
    • We've created a slack training video to help you get familiar with it
  • Check out our Calendar page and attend meetings
  • Students join our team trello
    • Invite Link: https://trello.com/invite/pearadox/6fee51e23cbe0bda85e1a911fb76edbd
    • Common Board: https://trello.com/invite/b/CioaKcEv/8c9feb61f58107974a8bad799584109d
  • We strongly encourage students to attend our offseason competitions:
    • The Texas Robotics Invitational in the summer
    • The Remix competition in the fall
  • Highly recommend to get a par of Z.87 Safety goggles
    • Usually available at your favorite hardware store... most have one that's $5 or less
    • Put your name on them and don't lose them. Students tend to prefer these instead of these
    • prescription safety glasses can be found at https://stoggles.com/
  • Lunch/registration fees will be accepted at a later date

We are approaching a size on Pearadox where it will be tough to accommodate everyone. We will do our best to get everyone to have the Pearadox experience, but students that do not regularly attend meetings may struggle to stay/feel up to date.

Want to start learning at home? I recommend checking out:
  • Pearadox training page (a work in progress)
  • Spectrums training page (also a work in progress)
  • Design Concepts design.spectrum3847.org
  • Learn how to CAD (Computer Aided Design)
    • Create an account via Onshape's FIRST Robotics sponsorship: https://www.onshape.com/edu/frc
    • The onshape account is FREE for students and educators, and can be used on any computer with a decent internet connection. There is no software to install.
    • This video walks through signing up, accessing important libraries, and navigating to the learning pathways
    • Recommended order of learning pathways is:
      • Introduction to CAD (4 parts)
      • Onshape Fundamentals (6 parts)
    • Community recommended training: onshape4frc.com
  • prescription safety glasses can be found at https://stoggles.com/
