Pearadox had a great time at the Alamo Regional, ending up ranked 19th out of 66 teams, making it into the quarterfinals with our alliance partners, 2789 texplosion and 2881 the lady cans, and winning the judges award, one of 13 awards veteran teams are eligible for from the judges. We think we earned this award for our strong presence at the regional (both visually and technically), our community outreach and involvement, and for reaching out to our state and federal representatives.
Can't wait to compete again April 7-9th at the George R Brown Convention Center in Houston!

As we close in on the final weekend of build season, which is always a stressful time for all teams, we just wanted to acknowledge a few people (ok - actually, many, many people) that have helped us get to where we're at. We'd be much more stressed this weekend without you!
First - just the help other teams can give is awesome. Both @Spectrum3847 and @Robonauts are a huge help to our team! We were able to prototype things faster because of Spectrum, and because of the Robonauts we can have high confidence that we won't have any surprises when we drive on a real field compared to ours built out of plywood. It is so important to NETWORK with teams in your area, and we're also available to help (virtually or in person) those that we can! It's been great working with the Juggerbots and Spartans this year as they're in their rookie year, and we hope we're paying forward the help we've received. Some of our new (Pearland-based) sponsors have also enabled us to do all sorts of things we weren't able to last year. @Former Fab, Inc. has done machining and a lot welding for us, and @Southern Product Finishing powder coated our frame and collector - that will not only help us be noticed but is just plain exciting for us! It's so great having local businesses help the team and encourage the future leaders in STEM. Also, we've had great help from parents, and have doubled both the number of teachers and mentors involved. It's really helped get rookie team members involved, and allowed students on the team to be mentored a lot more personally. It's crunch time for team Pearadox! Everybody on the team has been working hard to make the final preparations as the build season comes to a close. The base team received the final powder coated base from our fantastic sponsors,Former Fab, Inc. and Southern Product Finishing, and they have been working quickly to put the wheels on the final base. The collector team received the parts for the competition collector and have been working to test it and make sure the design works smoothly. Programming team has been working on getting vision working for our robot and experimenting with more autonomous. The spirit team finished our team standard and it looks incredible! The awards team had finished a first copy of the Chairman’s video and are working hard to make the second one even better. Be looking forward to that coming out soon! Everyone on the team is looking forward to our upcoming competitions in San Antonio and Houston and hopefully we have lots of success at them.
In our second week, we started to converge on a design for this years game. Our base prototype made a lot of progress and we'll be working hard to try to get our first frame welded and assembled by the end of the weekend (or shortly thereafter!). This is our first year CADing up parts of our robot and it has been very helpful! Electrical will be making sure that we have electronics ready to be mounted to a base. Collector and shooter prototyping continued with refining the variables and repackaging to fit onto our competition robot while meeting all of our team priorities. The programming team continues to build their toolbox of capabilities for when we have a robot together. Our chairmans team is hard at work too - we have a big deadline coming up.
Maybe we'll have some short teaser videos soon. Until then, here's some pictures! As a robotics team we have accomplished so much this past week together. We finished building the entire field and would like to extend our upmost gratitude to all the spectacular parents and mentors that support their local robotics team. In addition, we began prototyping a base and manipulator design for this year’s game, STRONGHOLD. The prototype for manipulator includes a collector with arms that extend on past the bumper with an axle crossing the middle that spins to collect the ball, and a shooter system with a similar design to that of a ballista which will transfer elastic potential energy into kinetic energy on the ball. Both parts of the manipulator have been successful in achieving their task. The base team developed a wheel based prototype and tread based prototype so we can better decide which method would work best for this game. The programming team has also been busy working with our programming mentor to investigate Command based programming. In addition they have been working on the first three of several autonomous modes that will be used at the competition. Chairman’s writing is also in progress and the team is on schedule to finish the first draft of the essay this Saturday. Everything is looking up for team Pearadox. Hopefully this fantastic progress and wonderful parent support will continue throughout the season. Thanks everyone for the effort so far. Until next week!
Lastly, one of our students is working on creating weekly video updates on some of our progress. Most of this video is from our first weekend, we hope to upload these in a more timely manner in the future! -https://youtu.be/oCZG6DZszG4 |
